OTHER ACTIVITIES OF FRIENDS OF BOLIVIA
HOW FRIENDS OF BOLIVIA BEGAN
Friends of Bolivia began when Mr. Rafael Elias was asked in 1992, by a friend in Bolivia, if he could help find and ship some medicines for the needy in a poor area of northern Bolivia. This initial donation generated an awareness that ongoing help for the poor of Bolivia was urgently needed. In 1993, Rafael incorporated Friends of Bolivia in Oklahoma City, OK, USA.
Besides going on medical missions to small rural villages where medical and general volunteers see the native people and assist them with major and minor medical problems, our organization also:
-Brings individual patients to Oklahoma who need more extensive medical treatment
-Support an orphanage in La Paz with medicines and financial assistance
-Collect and ship used medical equipment to poor and developing clinIcs
-By going on other types of medical missions - both prosthetic and surgical
