Friends of Bolivia brought 9 doctors, 7 dentists, 6 nurse practitioners, 3 pharmacists/assistants, 1 lab tech, 2 dental techs, 2 priests and 6 lay participants to offer service to this small community that has ever had enough medical support to offer those in need.
It took the team an all day flight from Oklahoma City to La Pa, then to Cochabamba, then Trinidad, it took another 4 hours of travel over rutted dirt road and then 3 hours on a river boat to reach St. Ignacio. As you can imagine this town doesn’t often receive outside help.
This town didn’t have electricity until 1996 and by the time we arrived it was only available from 9 a.m. to shortly after midnight. They hadn’t even seen a bicycle until about 1990.
